Juarez needs Bibles

Pray for our pastors in Juarez when you get a chance and as you feel led.  Pray for them by name - Elizabeth, Felipe, Valente, Javier, Jesus, Antonio, and Fernando.

Here are some of their requests and praises:

“Please continue to pray for our city”, “the lost souls in this place”, “our family”,and “the ministry here”.

“Please pray with us as we ask God to supply for our churches and the materials we need so that we can serve the people.”

“Please pray that we would get more Bibles.”

There was much thanks expressed for the back packs and food bank they received this year as well…

“…in very difficult moments these [food bank and back packs] have helped our families and been a huge blessing from God.”

Guys, two things about these prayer requests hit me – their dedication to their city and the huge importance of Project Hope.  All I hear about Juarez in the news is negative, so I forget that Juarez is home for our pastors, it’s their city that they love filled with people that they love.  It’s so easy to get idea of a place as hopeless or a lost cause but hearing from them reminds me that we need to be supporting them physically and in prayer every single chance we get.  They are fighting for Christ and peace and hope in a place that desperately needs it.  Even though we aren’t bringing groups to build in Juarez, we continue to work with our pastors there and meet any needs that we can.

One request was for more Bibles.  They don’t have enough Bibles.  In a city that has been eroded by drugs, gangs, unemployment, and violence, the one thing our pastors need most is the Bible.

We can do this.  They are only $5 each.  Five bucks.  Donate Bible to Juarez now.

If you want to know more about how you can serve Juarez and our pastors who live and work there everyday, call me at 619.662.1200 x143 and I’d love to tell you more ways you can get involved.

Monthly Focus – August

This year we have decided to create 12 Monthly Focus points to help you learn more about Amor’s programs and to ask for your prayer in support of these programs.  July’s monthly focus is Project Hope: Back to School!

Education is Mexico is not free. Most families have to pay a school fee, pay for uniforms and all the school supplies.  When there is not always enough money for food or housing, money for school can fall away from the priority list of a family.  Without this money, some children may not be able to attend school.

Education is an extremely important step in breaking the cycle of poverty.  The Back to School program provides school supplies to help ease the burden of the cost of education in Mexico.

The Back to School program can also be used as an outreach tool for the Pastors to reach families that we may not be able to build a house for.

How to Get Involved:

  • Donations to the Back to School program can be made online, by sending a check, or calling our San Diego office.
  • We ask you to join us in prayer for this program.  We pray for the education system in Mexico. We pray that each child would be able to go to school.  We pray that this fund grows and that it would be used to serve God.

Gearing up to go Back to School!

By Kamar Chafi, Project Hope Manager, Amor Ministries

This guy is excited to be heading back to school!

Project Hope: Back to School is in full swing and we are so excited to be helping children in Mexico afford to go to school.  In Mexico, public education is not free.  Many families not only have to pay a school fee and purchase uniforms, but are also required to provide all the necessary school supplies for each of their children.  This is often a burden on a family who only earns roughly $30 a week.

The Project Hope: Back to School Program was established to help relieve this financial burden.  Last year, many children in our Pastors’ churches and communities were able to start their school year off well with a back pack full of school supplies.  We want to give our Pastors the same opportunity this year to minister and invest in the future of children in need.  Help these children receive the education they deserve by donating to purchase a back to school kit that includes the required materials: backpacks, notebooks, glue, boxes of pencils, pens, crayons, and markers, sharpeners, scissors, rulers, calculators, erasers, folders, three ring binders, lined paper, and graph paper.  By making a donation and partnering with our Pastors, you will empower these children to have a brighter future.

Monthly Focus – July

This year we have decided to create 12 Monthly Focus points to help you learn more about Amor’s programs and to ask for your prayer in support of these programs.  July’s monthly focus is Project Hope: Hunger No More!

The Hunger No More program provides each Pastor on our Mexico Ministry Planning Board (MMPB) a stipend to feed their families and the families in their communities who might go hungry without this fund.

  • Many of the Pastors on the MMPB run food programs for their communities.
  • This program also provides another outreach tool for Pastors to reach families that we may not be able to build houses for.

Amor’s monthly goal for Project Hope: Hunger No More is to provide $3,000 per month’s worth of food for the Mexican Pastors to feed their families and distribute to hungry families in the Tijuana, Tecate, Rosarito, Puerto Peñasco, and Ciudad Juarez neighborhoods.

This program is so important to Amor because having food to feed your family is just as important as adequate housing.

How to Get Involved:

  • Donations to the Hunger No More program can be made online, by sending a check or calling the San Diego office.
  • We ask you to join us in prayer for this program.  We pray that this fund would grow and that the love of Christ would be spread through the food that is given.

Project Hope at Work

Last week, a group of highly energetic young soccer players came all the way from Washington State to build a house together.  This group of 10-12 year olds worked to build a dining hall for one of our Pastors, Pastor Ezekiel.  Pastor Ezekiel uses food bank money from Project Hope: Hunger No More to supplement a breakfast program that he runs for kids going to school in the morning – so that those kids do not have to go to school hungry.

The soccer team from Washington had a chance to play and enjoy life alongside the kids that are most impacted by the dining hall as they were building.  It was so cool to see the kids from two different countries interacting and playing as if they were old friends.  The language barrier was no problem for them.  It could not stop their fun.  It is so great to see how those relationships are so easily formed in such a short time.  All it takes is a love and the desire to have some fun!
